Data loggers
Import sessions from Racelogic VBOX, AiM, RaceChrono, TrackAddict and Garmin Catalyst, including how to export from each.
Import a session from your own logger and Outlap reads the GPS and times every lap itself, against the circuit’s start/finish line when it knows it. A 10 Hz logger is accurate to a few thousandths of a second. Choose an event you’re entered in and the laps go onto its board.

Export from your logger
| Logger | Format | How to export |
|---|---|---|
| Racelogic VBOX | .vbo | Copy the file from the SD card, or in Circuit Tools: File → Export → VBO. Works with VBOX LapTimer, Video HD2, Sport and Circuit Tools. |
| AiM (Solo 2, MyChron, MXS…) | CSV | Race Studio 3 → Analysis → open the session → Export → CSV. Include the GPS channels. |
| RaceChrono | CSV (v2 / v3) | Session → ⋮ → Export → CSV (v3). |
| TrackAddict | CSV | Sessions → select the session → Export → CSV data. |
| Garmin Catalyst | GPX | Garmin Connect → the activity → ⚙ → Export to GPX. |
| Harry’s LapTimer and others | CSV or GPX | Export as CSV or GPX. A plain list of lap times works too. |
What happens on import
-
The file type is detected from its contents and name: VBOX, AiM, RaceChrono, TrackAddict, GPX, a plain lap list, or a generic logger CSV.
-
Laps are found. If the file already contains lap times (a lap list, or AiM’s beacon/segment times) they’re used. Wherever the file has GPS, Outlap times the laps itself. See GPS lap timing.
-
Out-laps, in-laps and pit stops are dropped. Laps under 15 seconds or over 15 minutes are skipped, and laps far slower than the session’s typical lap are dropped as pit stops or red flags. The import summary tells you how many were skipped.
-
You choose where the laps go: your personal history, and optionally an event you’re entered in so they appear on its board.
Where the start/finish line comes from
Outlap uses the best source available, in this order:
- The file itself. VBOX files can carry the line (
[laptiming]section). - The circuit’s known start/finish, for circuits in the Outlap database.
- The point where the device changed lap number, for loggers that do their own timing.
- A line across the fastest straight, as a last resort. Any line around the lap gives the same lap times, so this is reliable for lap times, though sector positions won’t match the circuit’s.
The import screen tells you which was used.
Tips for clean data
- Log with a clear sky view and let the GPS lock before you leave the pits.
- Use the highest GPS rate your logger offers. 10 Hz or better.
- Include the GPS channels in AiM exports; a timing-only export can’t be re-timed.
- One session per file keeps the result cleanest.
